"The Advancement of Learning

Author Bio: Sir Francis Bacon was the "father" of modern science and invented the reform I learning and the scientific method.

Context: The speech was made during the 1600 and went on to talk his idea of the reforms of learning.

Summary: Wrongly wresting and transferring what had been said I the Holy Writ against the one who pry into sacred mysteries if the hidden things if nature. Others reflect on the things in nature that are unknown.


Key Quotations: "Since the one displays the will of God, the other his power."

  1. Expand your author bio, explanation of the socio-historical context, and summary. Further, when considering Bacon, one also must consider this other texts. Specifically, see my comment to "I Have Made a Beginning to the Work"

  2. This document is characterized by many transcendental ideals. There is an emphasis on learning through inquiry and nature rather than following the teachings of the Holy Writ. Bacon seems to know that his ideals on teaching will cause backlash with the church, but that does not stop him from telling the public his opinion. Cynthia, overall your PDP is kind of difficult to understand. I don't think your summary is long enough and there needs to be more context and author bio. The document was rather short and I had to read it a few times to understand what Bacon was trying to get across, but good effort!
